The Ether dimension is the complete opposite of the Nether, and it should definitely be your next stop in Minecraft. This dimension is bright, optimistic, and beautiful — but beneath this heavenly facade lies a lot of hidden danger.

Building the Ether Portal
To build the Ether portal, you need to construct a 4x5 frame made of specialized portal blocks. Each block requires 5 pieces of Quartz to craft, which means you'll need to farm quite a bit of Quartz beforehand. The frame layout is identical to a Nether portal, and it is activated similarly using a Flint and Steel.
Exploring the Dimension
On the other side of the portal, an absolutely breathtaking landscape awaits. You'll find vast green fields and hills dotted with trees and flowers. In the distance, the skyline is dominated by a massive, temple-like structure.
Because the dimension is composed entirely of floating islands, there are plenty of flying creatures roaming the skies. Some of them, like flying pigs and unicorns, can even be tamed and ridden:
- Unicorns: Tamed just like regular horses by repeatedly mounting them.
- Flying Pigs: Need to be fed Betherries to tame. (Keep in mind that flying works a bit unusually; these mobs jump high rather than freely gliding around).
Overworld Rules Don't Apply Here
I learned the hard way that Overworld gear isn't effective in the Ether. My diamond sword barely scratched the mobs living here. As it turns out, you need to craft gear from local ores for it to deal proper damage against the native fauna.
Final Thoughts
The Ether is a massive, intriguing dimension filled with multiple biomes, dozens of new mobs, challenging bosses, and secrets to uncover. Be sure to invest a few hours into exploring this addon before passing final judgment on it!
