Mutated Items

Mutated Items is a "what if" add-on that brings to life in-game items that were never supposed to exist this way. Items like the Cauldron, Totem of Undying, and Torch have been turned into mobs, and all of these new creatures are special in some shape or form.

Basically, this add-on offers something similar to artifact or trinket mods: the mobs serve as a way to empower your character with buffs for certain situations. Although making them living mobs makes the utility less convenient (since they can die), I can see how it would be fun for some people to collect them like Pokémon. Personally, I will use this in my playthroughs because I like any additional power I can get.

Mobs, and what do they do

  • Torchy: A tiny companion that lights up dark areas.
  • Spawning Hutch: A walking spawner created by placing a Jack’o Lantern on a Dungeon Spawner. It “eats” items like Rotten Flesh and Blaze Rods, then spawns the corresponding mob every 30 seconds.
  • Training Dummy (Repressed Ninja): A living dummy that shows your attack damage. Swords and axes can get stuck in it.
  • Jelly Bear: You can change its color/flavor with potions and repair missing parts using Slimeballs.
  • Exiled Book Demon: A demon that attacks with energy blades torn from its book.
  • Ender Hull: Hitting it swaps your position with its shell. It can spawn when Endermen die and can disrupt Enderman farms.
  • Hammerhead of the End: A shark-like End beast with bedrock armor. Only its End Crystal heart can be damaged, and hitting it causes a deadly explosion.
  • Sculk Goblin: A goblin that stores XP in its skin and steals XP from players. It has player-like health and drops all stolen levels when killed.
  • Furnace Golem: Summoned using a Furnace and a Carved Pumpkin. Needs fuel to stay active. Can hold items and smelt them faster than a furnace, at the cost of burning through its fuel time.
  • Nether Crab: A harmless crab that crushes Nether Quartz into experience. Feed it any form of quartz to earn quick XP.
  • Shear Ant: Aggressive ants that climb onto sheep and shear them automatically. They drop the wool on the ground, so you should collect it regularly.
  • Redstone Bug: Lives inside Redstone ore. It eats Redstone dust and glows brighter as it feeds. After eating enough, it outputs a Redstone signal of 10 but may break your circuits.
  • Chest Pet (Illager Mansion Pet): A tiny creature hiding in Mansion chests. It follows players and occasionally gives Regeneration. Very fragile but useful as a mobile heal source.
  • Dissolved Enderman: Extremely dangerous — it ignores armor and deals area damage similar to Dragon Breath.
  • Cauldron Bud: A creature with a huge internal cauldron that stores up to 32 buckets of any liquid. You can ride inside to guide it.
  • Blaze Fox: A fox made of blaze rods. You can tame it with Coal. It fights like a Blaze, shooting triple fireballs, but isn’t afraid of water.
